I remember, many years ago on TrashCan, having a new asshole torn open by some God From Air Canada when I suggested it maybe wasn't the best idea to schedule two weak pilots together?

The harrumphing was something terrible.

That’s a good idea in theory, and I’ve seen it done in a small, Sqn sized, pilot cadre. However, when you have 2000+ pilots and your schedulers (who aren’t even pilots) aren’t even in the same city as your standards cell, it’s just not doable on a large scale.
