One report I saw said it landed "short of runway" if your definition of "short" is about a mile back.

That's pretty popular, when you don't have an ILS (GS) and the wx is crap.
Flying a night non-precision approach in crap wx to someplace you've never been before is pretty sporty for most private pilots.
I don't think they let part 121 circle. You guys call it CAR 706?

I’ve always like the V tail Bo
I really considered one but somehow got talked out of it when I was looking for a family hauler.
Can only speculate but I would bet a burger that those tanks are dry or on the “wrong one”

They can be pretty and no doubt are an iconic post-war light travelling plane but I tried one out once and just didn’t like that infamous ‘Beech wag.’Scudrunner wrote: Tue Sep 05, 2023 4:45 pm I’ve always like the V tail Bo

Unfortunately from what I have heard, it happened in good VFR, and was due to some fuel system mismanagement.Colonel wrote: Tue Sep 05, 2023 3:16 pm That's pretty popular, when you don't have an ILS (GS) and the wx is crap.
Edit: plane was equipped with tip tanks, and oddly it was mentioned that in the installation one could draw directly from the tips, which would be different from most single engine set ups I have seen.
Almost a moot point now, there aren't many circling approaches left.I don't think they let part 121 circle. You guys call it CAR 706?

Circling is permitted, if you train it.

Depends on the operation. Old company was no night circling or even day below some visibility and ceiling.
On my ride with the dfo as the examiner he cleared me for a circling approach. I replied unable , ask for another approach or divert to our alternate.
He looked puzzled and said “what’s the problem?”
I replied “It’s below our company minimums sir we are not authorized to conduct a circling approach below X Y Z”
Long pause “hmm you’re correct and that’s noted. Funny you’re the first to challenge me on that during a ride, but I still need to see you do it”
No problem sir
