People love love love their oil filters in their airplanes. But they have a horrible failure mode.

I remember a 172 at my old home airport with one of these abortions - it failed and
drained all the engine oil out in flight.

Is that a good thing? Do people think aircraft engines need oil?

See all the manufacturer SB's and AD's. Like other things we aren't allowed to talk about,
this fails a basic cost/benefit analysis.

The 21st century is a really weird place. Not sure I'm allowed to express that opinion, but ....

My Continental departed Mobile well over half a century ago … that’s modern?! :)

There can’t be much pre-WW2 stuff still actively flying …

I remember filling out the Continental booth questionnaire at OSH years ago and it asked to tick off the boxes next to their products that I regularly use.

“Um, excuse me, there’s no check box for an A40 here.”

I dunno, I account for a few pre-war airplanes. Two and a half and a half I guess.

As for ‘EEJ my dream had been to do better in life and buy that airplane off Larry when he was ready to sell but then we lost him instead. It’s too bad, it would look nice in the hangar with the wings folded and the Gipsy Moth could use the company.
