Cale was a true road warrior touring in a clapped of bus. My only regret is I never got to see him live.
Yup, got to see him live in the mid '70s.
Musically, unbelievable, truly an experience proving that some live music can be better than any studio recording.
Stage persona - none. Most of the time facing the band and maybe swaying slightly. Quietly mumbled lyrics. This at a time of Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Queen, etc - most more theatre than music, even ZZTop were running costumes and light shows.
Often wondered if one of the reasons for him not becoming more well known was because his touring act was about the music, not trying to be a Big Freaking Star, and not pandering to the general public. I used to mix copies of lotsa stuff for friends, but I made them buy Cale's records, so he'd get some royalties.

Fantastic song. I worship at the Church Of Tommy. If he doesn't inspire you to quit playing, nobody will:

Tommy E wrote and performed this:

So much talent and skill crammed into one body. 60 years of practice helps, of course ....

Session musician, of course. I'm sure Madonna and Lady Gaga are much richer.
