Son was complaining that his Telex 50D wasn't perfect, so I
ordered him one of these, which as far as I can tell, is the best
headset on the market right now:

The 50D had the best combined passive and active noise
reduction, but it's out of production now. Perrone mesh
(snoopy) helmet is on back order.

Feels nice. Put 2 AA in, ANR works. Has Bluetooth, so he
can listen to music and talk to Siri without any wires during
the wingovers, which I guess is nice.

I'll get back to you, and let you know if it's as good as (or
better than) the 50D.

Anyone else tried one?

Yup.

I swear by them. The wife made me get one for her too.

I use the Pro-X2 in the airbus, which is identical, except its an
"on-ear" vs over the ear cup.

Can't say enough great things about them.

Son tried these without the snoopy helmet - just a duct tape chin strap
and said the ANR fails over 1500 RPM, same as the Bose A20, which I
personally think is a piece of shit.

We'll try again with the perrone, but I think this headset is destined for
the circular filing cabinet.

Ever try a Clarity Aloft? No ANR but pretty good passive on account of them being ear plugs. Really light weight too.

Yeah, Freddy used to use them in the P-51. I had a student use them in the Pitts,
and oh yeah, Dear Old Dad tried them out, but went back to the 50D/Perrone.

I think Rick Volker uses the ear buds, too ... lots of people swear by them in
noisy cockpits. Sort of like an IUD for aerobatic pilots.

I've got the DC in the co-pilot/ passenger seat. They seem to work well.

I've got the Bose A20 on my side and I'm quire happy with them.

I find I have to take out my 'ear pieces/hearing aids' when using the headset; there's a feedback/squeal if I don't ....
