Gerry Younger! What a guy. For many years, pretty well everyone that flew aerobatics in Canada got some dual in the front seat of his Pitts S-2A. He was so kind and gentle and nurturing. Never a harsh word.
ahhahahahahaahahahahahahahahhhhhahahahahahahahahahaha
I remember in his twilight years, he flew an awesome airshow in a borrowed Extra.
He must be in his 90’s by now. This was maybe 10-ish years ago?
There's someone here that, shall we say, is well-acquainted with Gerry. So to speak. They shared something. Ahem.
And I'm not talking about Jay Hunt. IIRC they put their Pitts in a container, shipped it to Germany, put them together there and flew to the WAC in the Soviet Union, which is pretty bad-ass. Bob Hoover flew at the WAC in Russia once, and the KGB wanted to put him in jail because they didn't like how he flew. I am not making this up. Jesus, I sure know how he feels. Remember Bob Hoover escaped from a WWII concentration camp, stole a German fighter, and flew it back. Nice guy, biggest nose I have ever seen on a pilot, but a bad-ass.

I did my tailwheel checkout with Gerry in his green clip wing Cub. Fun few hours though he didn’t say much. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.
I haven’t seen Gerry since last spring but the loss of his wife seemed to have hit him hard. I sure hope he’s still with us.

Jeez I hope so. You know those oblivious idiots who go through life thinking they’re awesome but it’s just because people around them feel it would be a waste of time to say otherwise? Sometimes I worry that’s me.Colonel wrote: Wed Jan 18, 2023 1:06 amHigher praise, you will never receive :^)he didn’t say much
But anyways, Gerry is awesome. He made a 1/4 scale rotary engine that runs and was working on a quarter scale Merlin. A couple years ago he finally caved and got some pretty high tech hearing aids and it was a pleasure finally being able to chat with him at length over all the things he’s done. I’ll try and remember to update y’all on how he’s doing when I see him next. Hopefully in May.
