There is a discussion on the other site about the benefit of learning to fly a tail wheel airplane with regard to flying skills.


So what do all you people think, are your skills increased by learning to fly tail wheel airplanes?

Not sure how anyone could argue that fundamental
stick and rudder skills - which taildraggers build -
are unimportant, but ...

They know everything on AvCan already, so who can
tell them anything?

What I'd like to know is:  if they're all so smart, why
aren't they rich?

Most of them are fairly new to aviation and many come from the puppy mill school pool, taught by instructors with not much more experience than their students.


One exception is Rocky, he seems to have made it to operating big jets which are operated by the paint by numbers  method that allows almost anyone with even limited hands and feet skills to operate them.


I am truly unable to figure him out.


Sometimes though actual flying skills will make the difference between completing the flight safely and ending up like that crew that landed short of the runway in SFO on a beautiful clear no wind day.

Face it Kent.

Anyone saying you won't benefit from even taxiing around in an airplane with conventional gear is basically afraid to admit they either..

I learned on a tail dragger, every plane I have flown since has been a piece of cake, a loaded 207 was a bit of handful mind you.

You were lucky, you had an excellent teacher and learned on the best little trainer ever made.

Couldn't agree more, side note; spill over from the other thread about satisfied students the video mentions find an instructor that suits you this is some great advice and kids take note.
