So I'm on another forum that specializes on a certain type of aircraft. It is a real good forum with lots of friendly, knowledgable airplane owners. It's pretty civilized there so I don't want to make a scene, but a poster there is driving me nuts!

He owns a pressurized twin, an amphib 185, and a 172xp according to his signature.

He writes a detailed blurb about how pissed he is about ramp fees at a certain FBO. His story is that he flies his twin an hour to this airport, parks his plane, rents a car, goes for lunch, comes back and gets charged a ramp fee and is all mad.

Come on. First world problems. Enjoy your privilage.

In a nutshell yes pilots are cheap, in the above why doesn't he just buy some gas, most FBO's will waive the fee.

I had a hangar at a local airport it was secure free of mice and kept your plane out of the elements which here in Alberta can be harsh. Hail, high winds, ice and heavy snow. sure it wasn't heated or had Electricity but a generator and solar panels to keep the bifold door operating.

When renting it out I was asking a $125 for shared hangar space and tons room to store your gear. Guys would piss and moan and say things like "jesus its only 50 a month for tie downs" or "I should just build my own hangar". Go ahead build one I don't care, and really how many mice do you want in your plane and how much hail damage are you prepared to tolerate on the plane  you just spent  $60k on.

I will admit I get upset when I see planes abused and left outside in all manner of disrepair but when one of these guys had his aileron ripped off in a wind storm while tied down saving him all kinds of money with the tie down called looking for space to repair his plane I had a little grin saying "Sorry hangars full"  I felt bad for the guy who had his prop stolen but judging by the amount of bird crap on the plane and nests in his cowl I don't think he was going anywhere anytime soon or he even cared.


What was the site you where on? post it please might be a good resource for others on here.

I'm not. The again I can't seem to buy one single engine plane so there's that.

Did you ever think that, perhaps, this fellow is prone to telling a few stretchers?

He did say they would wave the fee to buy gas. At $1 a gallon more than his home airport. So he still "paid" to park

Skys: it was the twin Cessna forum. Paid site. Worth the price of admission if you own any Cessna piston twin. , in my opinion.
Where is you hanger? i pay $1000/month rent for a heated hangar of my own. Worth every penny. Unheated tee hangars go for 600/month at my home airport CYQU

It was at Beiseker Alberta CFV2, I have since sold it, I didn't like having capital tied up in it for very little return.

It is funny Airdrie won't allow anyone to built a proper hangar and Springbank is retarted expensive. I figured pilots would be willing to drive just a little further to have a proper hangar and pay at least what Springbank charges for tie downs to have your plane out of the elements. ( I was wrong) oh well nothing ventured nothing gained.

I guess as in all real estate location is everything

I come across lots of current and former pilots as a flight instructor. A lot of them I find are too cheap to even but a VNC for $20. So yes, a lot of pilots are cheap. Sad:(
