that it doesn't make any difference.

in Canada - the way TC wants it.

I just realized that for all the pictures of them I've drooled over I had never seen a Ryan Recruit in motion before that video.  Looks like it just moved a couple notches up my bucket list.

Is a fun little airplane.

Solo from rear seat.  Prop is very
coarse - builds speed rapidly when
taxiing.  Brakes are marginal.

Kinner is not easy to start, esp when
cool/cold.  No primer, though I see
some people have added them (another
reason you could not import).

I learned a trick reading a WWI book -
squirt a little gas into the zoomie
pipes.  I tend to only prime top
cylinders.  Actually ether works better
and is compressible unlike 100LL
which doesn't evaporate worth beans.

Like any radial, pull through many times
to avoid blowing off bottom jugs full
of oil.  Put a pan underneath the exhaust
pipes of the bottom cylinders - even
with the oil turned off via the 1/4 turn
valve at the back of the engine, the
bottom cylinders will be full of oil if
the engine has sat for any length of
time.  Consider pulling those plugs
and cleaning the oil off them.

Kinner valves tend to stick.  Typical.

Easy to fly if you follow my advice
and do not leave ground effect after
takeoff until you have 80 mph, and
do not slow down below 80 mph on
final until in ground effect.  You can
fly slower after you make friends
with it.

Flaps are pretty useless and just
lower the nose for a better wheel
landing.

Does nice acro.  Va is ridiculous.
Spin recoveries, both upright and
inverted were unremarkable IMHO
but I didn't let them wind up as is
fashionable.

Hey, is anyone still flying off the grass at
Kakabeka, er, Murillo?  I haven't been there
in many decades (though I still have family
in Thunder Bay).

So many little things ....

Every once in while, pop the cotter pins
out of the castellated nuts holding the
wooden prop on.

See, wood shrinks over time, and you
need to gently snug it up to make sure
it's not moving around on you.  Make
sure the torque is even, using a star
pattern.

Be thoughtful about how you put the
new cotter pins in.  I doubt AC 43-13
(or any other manual) mentions that.
I have seen them installed backwards!

Just like nobody mentioned Locktite
to the child that re-assembled Harry
Ford's carburetor.

All of the old aircraft mechanics that
know this stuff are dead and gone.

Peeking into an engine comparment,
it's hilarious when you spot lock wire
that's installed [i]backwards[/i], pulling on
the fastener to loosen it.

There's a guy with a PhD that got kicked
off the RV mailing list because they
thought he was a troll.  He couldn't
figure out how to use a drilled bolt,
castellated nut and a cotter pin.

I am not making this up.

There are people here who likely know
to whom I am referring - so I will not
get any more specific, or refer to his
amazing article about accidentally
flying VFR in cloud, for a very long time.

I'm just a dumb fucking airshow pilot
and never bothered to get a PhD - not
even an honorary one, like the CFI at
CYSH.  I told him, an honorary PhD is
like a nerf dildo.  It looks good but it
isn't really good for much.

Funny.  I worked with a guy for months
and at lunch he mentioned that he had
a PhD and used to be a professor.  An
ace with powerpoint, he was.
