How many years has it been since that first flight? It gets longer with every telling. Polls are fun!

1973 at Toronto Island in Maule VOJ

I was young. They told me it was art. I needed the money.

1973 was when I started getting serious dual. Before that I was just a pax tagging along, in the 1960’s, freezing my feet in FMP a Champ on skis at the Kingston Flying Club. First aerobatics was in a Jodel, maybe around 1970?

Laurentide Aviation was were I had my first official lesson October 1 1976 with Robbie Schofield, nephew of the legendary Jack Schofield. Jack taught my father how to fly in 1954.

Looking back the 1970’s were the glory days of GA. Laurentide sold 50 new Cessna’s a year. I remember one day I showed up and there were 6 brand new Cessna 185’s parked in the grass next to a stack of new Edo floats. Everyday the shop would fit a set of floats and launch them off the runway on the dolly.

The birth dates of my last few Instructor ride candidates were after 9-11. I am reluctantly coming to the realization my time as a youth might be coming to an end……

BPF: I can handle one generation gap, but I think it’s time for us to quit when we have two generations between us and the youngsters.

When you were starting out, I’m sure your grandparents were even more of a pain in the ass than your parents.

You’ll have to excuse me now. I see a cloud - I have to go out into my front yard and yell at it
