Houses are often priced the same way. You know, stupidly. And
the listing sits there. And sits there. It can actually be kind of fun
to watch them as they switch brokers and the prices sag ever so
slightly over the years, but still nowhere near close to market.

Just because some moron thinks their ancient pile of riveted
aluminum is worth a fortune, doesn't mean anyone is paying it.

Its always been this way with airplanes. There are a lot of guys who think that every cent they spend on the airplane increases its value by an equal amount.

Morons. They've never owned a car or motorcycle. Any modifications to it decrease
it's sale value.

Pro Tip™: keep the stock parts. When you sell it, put the stock parts back on and it
will increase the resale price. As a bonus, sell the modified parts on Craigslist and
you literally win/win.

There is a dentist - retired two-star USN Admiral - that bought a certified Pitts S-1T
and removed it's entire firewall forward and put it in the corner of the hangar. Installed
an IO-540 and told the FSDO "it's experimental now" and went flying. After he was done
with that, he removed the 540, re-installed the four banger firewall forward, told the FSDO
"it's a certified airplane now" and sold it as a stock S-1T with a low-time engine and prop.

You just can't make this sh1t up.

I know of a "certified" S-2B in Canada (not mine) that did this dance before import.
