Thinking of making some YouTube videos to get more eyeballs on here. You’ve all seen those top five ______ fill in the blank type videos so if you had to rank your top five Bush airplanes what would they be


For various reason I’ve come up with this, maybe make this a top 10.
1. Beaver - because who doesn’t like beaver
2. Single Otter - more pelt
3. Cessna 185
4. Twin Otter

Most carriers, back in the day could not afford a single otter and certainly a 2Otter was not for the southern group. One operated in the 80's out of Pickle but the only way to make money was to haul stupid overloads (5000 lbs on floats) The one beautiful aircraft was reduced to a pile of crap in a very short time from such abuse.
The beaver, for me was not a favourite. It was a piece of shit on skis. Useless in slush and can't fly a load on sticky snow. Elliot boards helped but not many beavers had the luxury of those skis.

Today there might be "remote" pilots but "bush pilots" are very rare in today's Canada. They were even becoming rare even when I started flying back in the 60's. The group that started in the beginning and flew into the 50's were the true bush pilots of Canada. No maps, no support and getting the job done, simply fucking amazing.

I hear what your saying about true bush pilots. I guess the term as sort of got softened over the years.

When I was in the Yukon I would always say to friends I was "flying in the bush up north" (giggty)

I guess I was humble enough to know I wasn't a "Bush Pilot" rather a Pilot flying in the "Bush" big difference..

I should dust off Max Wards book and Skippers of the Sky reread them.

Some look up to Athletes but those guys where my heroes growing up.

Today it's just the home for a very few people. Starratt Airways was purchased 30 plus years ago and is still operating with an original Found and a Beaver.

We forgot the honourable mention for the Found. Nice try but no cigar.

Don't forget the PBY, it was also one of Canadas better bush planes.

As I get older I find I am getting less " Bush time".

For sure Liquid Charlie does seem to be a bit of a pervert, I wonder if that is why he was banned from the other site ?

If we are all perverts, then that would make us the same, and being that this merry band of men are the same, perversion would be normal, and thus no longer an outlier.

As such we are no longer perverts.
