Awake for 19 hours!

Canada is a backwoods shit hole, maybe Justin Trudeau would pay attention if "Fatigue" was some sort of gender pronoun

I'm not discounting your shitty duty regs in Canada.  I thank my deity almost daily I don't have to work under them however:

As a GD pilot, an airline (AIRBUS) pilot no less, why didn't they look at the PFD and wonder why the localizer was so fucked up.  Why didn't the PNF look up and ask, gee those lights look funny for a runway.

And lastly, as a captain, It's my ass to look at the NOTAM's.  I will push back when I'm good and ready, which includes time to look through the NOTAM's at both departure and destination.

I have yet to be late, by the way.

I love to bag on Air Canada, because the egotistical group think over there, but come on now. There are several high profile incidents as of late.

re: NOTAM garbage

Everyone knows that people on the ground do their best to hide the most
important information from the people that need it the most, because
fuck safety.

Aircraft crucial operational and maintenance information is brilliantly
obfuscated.  What you need to know is certain to be buried at page 692
and worded in the most confusing way possible by a lawyer, because
fuck safety.

When I used to teach IFR, I told students to start reading the tiniest print
on the plate first, because that's certain to fucking kill you, and fuck safety.

The whining, blaming and excuses are unbelievable.  I don't do excuses.

You're pilot in command. You fucked up.  Period. Own it.

That should be the attitude in Canada, but it isn't. On anything.  Who can we blame?

Bunch of loser whiners with their panties in a knot because the NTSB embarrassed the flag carrier.

Feelings.....oh oh now feelings........

It makes me angry because the mentality in Canada is -- blame someone else. For everything.  It's second class loserville. I run a business up here.  And to some people it's like I'm a pariah. Small business is evil.
They aspire to work for the government.  WTF?

The attitude of excuses while distasteful and take one for the team is honourable most guys look at their income and jobs and are willing to do anything to protect income. As a senior captain finding yourself kicking stones is not a good place to be. He likely realizes he will lose his seat but is hoping worst case he will be only demoted. The union will live up to it's mandate and we will see what we see. It's easy and AC is hoping to nail individuals but the problem goes far deeper than that. It's time to expose the belly of the beast. Clearly more oversight is required. A term TC is trying to eliminate.

So pilot fatigue - Canada has a bunch of pussies as law makers and try to make everyone happy. We never learn, just look at the dogs' breakfast over approach bans and TC issuing what was up until recently called ops specs, how fucking dumb is that. It's an end run to allow small companies with substandard equipment to land CAT2

Our American counterparts identified fatigue as an issune and passed legislation in just over a year, Canada has been sitting on this shit since 2011 -- the operators keep parading bullshit in front of the law makers and they suck it in. Example all 3rd party medevac companies have 24/7 coverage with one crew and the crew literally works it's away around the clock with rest periods. This is against all science and how fucked up is that. These companies do not want to hire crews for 2 12 hour shifts which any sane person knows is the correct way to do it. How many people have you worked for who figured a day has 28 hours. Damn it is truly fucked up and what about WS with their low approach, very quiet indeed. There is a cancer in Canada's Tear 1 carriers and it needs to be addressed, new flight duty regulations would be a good place to start.

If I recall correctly, they did exactly that. They looked outside, queried tower about traffic on what they thought was the runway, and went around because it didn't look good.

I gotta ask....Why is this all about the government and regulations?

It seems to me that the Captain had a pretty good idea before he started the flight he would be awake 19 hours by the end of the trip....does he not bear any responsability because the government did not provide a regulation?

And Air Canada.  Do they have to wait for the government to pass regulations rather than proactively implementing their own duty regulations?

Seems like some others agree with my sentiments.

So much for a culture of safety.  For cute little diddlies like IMSAFE, and signing a release form before flight,

We are such a nanny state.  And all the lip service about safety is just that, lip service.

Rant over

No such thing as personal responsibility in Canada.

People need to be told to actually wipe their ass.

That is a function of the socialistic culture that has been bred into several generations of Canadians.

And which hand to do it with.
