So my brother is a welder and the other day his old welding school was having some recruiters come in from a major company that requires a lot of various steel fabrication to high standards (so as not to kill people) so he decided to go in and see what they had to say.  These guys give a big talk about what it’s like to weld there and the kind of lifestyles and pay their department sees and start handing out business cards when one of the students ask s how many positions they’re looking to fill.  “Oh no, we don’t need welders right now,” says the recruiter, “If you get hired we would put you in a different position until a need for a welder came up.  It probably wouldn’t be right away but maybe in a year or two.”  Sound familiar?

To his credit the owner of the school stopped them right there to make himself clear that his graduates were qualified to weld, not to do some other job while their certified skills atrophy.  I wonder if any flight schools could in good conscience say that about the quality of each and every one of their students.
