So next weekend I am throwing the family in the back of the 310 and escaping the snow and cold and wonderfullness of northern Alberta and heading to Southern California to take the kids (2, 5, 15, and 18) to Disneyland for the first time.

I’m hoping to jump over the rocks to Seattle area to clear customs and then take the coastal route down. I will be parking at Fullerton for a week and then hit Vegas and the inland rout for the way home.

Anyone done a trip like this?  And must see places along the way that the family would enjoy checking out?

We have 2 weeks slotted for the trip. But that can be extended if needed

LOL -- you are a brave man - I can just picture the passengers, the age mix is perfect. You will experience all the stuff we see in the movies when it comes to kids and road trips -- JK JK -- fly safe and have a great trip. After you get back you will be installing an entertainment system --  >:D

I would love to do that trip but a cub or similar on big wheels would be for me and the passenger seat full of beer -- sorry gear -- but I'm a grumpy old man who likes his own company --  ;D

Na.  They are all good travelers.

The two year old has come for about 20 trips with me so far. He has yet to be awake to witness a takeoff or landing.  Once he woke up in cruise and looked a bit confused when he looked out the window.

Mabee this will be the trip that he realizes we aren’t in the minivan.

Figures, this happened while I wasn't around.

How did it go? I love AFI, father and son, old guys. Their staff was so nice when I went there.

Haven’t left yet, David.

Plan was gonna be to leave this Saturday from Grande Prairie. But weather looks dicey.

We have our bags packed and ready to get an early start as soon as tomorrow if there is enough break in the weather

Well i did it. Made it back last night after about 2 and a half weeks.

We took 3 days to fly down to Anaheim, with stops in Yakima, WA and Sacremento, CA. Had to go around some weather, and I was being overly cautious with all the family in the back.

Flying into LA was a bit of a challenge. about 30 frequency changes in the last 15 minutes of flight. The controllers seemed to have problems with canadian registration callsign. And to top it off, there was a similar canadian registration on the same freq for a couple minutes, landing at a different airport, and the controllers mixed us up once...

Taking off out of LA to Vegas was just as challenging. I am glad I was IFR and someone was able to guide me in and out of the area.

The trip to LA and Vegas was all IFR on the way there. I stayed above the clouds for the most part. The way back was a mix of IFR and VFR. It was a nice change to not have to yak on the radio for the entire flight when going VFR to stay under the ice-filled clouds.

We were all anxious to get back home, but weather was challenging. Stopped in Brigham city for fuel, then Baker City for fuel and rest. Kelowna to clear customs back into canada, then VFR flight up to Mackenzie, BC and then over the rocks home.

Sounds like you had a great trip!

Welcome to my world  :))

One day at Wilkes-Barre, we had a monumental screwup with ATC
with KPS, TPS and RPS all talking on approach!

Learned my lesson, only one guy talks now.
