Unpopular Opinion

a lot of folks aren't going to like it but I'm saying it anyways: today I had to deal with Transport Canada and once again they were just great.  Now I can't speak of the ones who think they hold power because I just don't regularly interact with them, but the ordinary office drones down at TC are easily the most pleasant and helpful government workers I've had the pleasure of dealing with.

I'm glad to hear that they don't feel threatened by
you, and don't feel the need to attack you, your
family and friends.

I'm not sure what Bob Hoover did to deserve his
treatment, but there it is.

We're coming up one two years since they stole my
laptop and phone, and they are showing no sign of
returning my property.  That's banana republic
behaviour, and I try to learn from that, and stay as
far away as I can.

I would be fascinated to learn where in the Aeronautics
Act that TC are empowered to disenfranchise.

I got a cold call from an Enforcement Inspector in
Atlantic Region a few years back, and she said that
if I ever flew there, she would find something to
charge me with.  I'm sure she is Regional Director
by now.

I was told that it would not be productive for me to
attempt to renew an instructor rating in Ontario
Region, so I went to Manitoba and renewed my
class 1 and aerobatic class 1 instructor ratings
there.  I carefully renewed my medical in Quebec
Region.  TC told the ICAS ACEs in Canada to not
evaluate us, so I had to fly an ICAS ACE up from
the USA who wasn't afraid of TC, to evaluate us
every year.  None of this was convenient or
inexpensive.

TC placed a ridiculous "no aerobatic" restriction
on my father's medical.  This was nonsense.  He
phoned up Dr Lawrence Appleford, who worked
part-time at TC, who told my father that TC was
angry at me for Hanover.

What the fuck?  My father easily maintained a
class 2 FAA medical with no silly restrictions but
TC refused to honour the ICAO convention and
would not let him fly a US-registered aircraft in
Canada on his US licence.

Who knew that Canada had resigned from the
ICAO convention?

Meanwhile, TC told airshow operators in Canada
that they would not issue an airshow SFOC if my
name was on it.

Now, should I just pretend that none of this
happened?  It's fucking insane.

Thanks, Arlo!  Nice campaign you're running!

Like I said, I can't speak of those guys.  I would hope the paper pushers at TC wouldn't feel threatened by me, I'm just some normal guy who faked his way into looking competent around airplanes and airplane stuff.  This latest time I was dealing with some of their folks in licensing and they were nothing short of fantastic.  They always pick up their phones on the first or second ring and seem to have excellent access to whatever I need from them in order to sort out the little hiccups that come up from time to time.

Yeah, there are pricks in every field but I figure I'll give credit where it's due.

The problem in TC is not the lower level workers it is the top management.

You do not want to get in a situation where they think they are all powerful because if you do you will soon realise they are truly the scum of the earth.

It has been my observation that turds float to the top
and rarely face any consequences for their actions.

Look at how the IRS and the FBI were politicized as
weapons recently by Obama.

Nixon used the CIA for his own purposes, you might
remember.

This woman should really be in jail, but she skated,
of course, like corrupt bureaucrats do:
In May 2014, Lerner was declared in contempt of Congress in connection with her invocation of her Fifth Amendment not to testify on the matter before a congressional committee.

Representative Steve Stockman introduced a measure (never taken up by the House) that, had it been adopted, would have directed Speaker John Boehner to instruct the House sergeant at arms to arrest Lerner for contempt of Congress.

A sociopath is likely to have been a 'problem child' and exhibited difficult behavior when younger.

As they grow older they are likely to be highly successful which is a result of their willingness to get one over on their competition and colleagues, a desire and belief in success, and lack of risk aversion.
Turds float to the top, and I can see how people who were
not targeted by the IRS might say, "What's the problem?"

It's nice when you're not the target of a weaponized bureaucracy
like TC or the FBI:

Few people understand that a corrupt Government official is lower than a common street criminal, in fact as fr as I am concerned the only thing lower than a corrupt government official is a child molester.

They are almost untouchable because they circle the wagons and protect each other, but they can be brought down and gotten rid of if you can use the rule of law against them, it is difficult but it can be done.

It took me three and a half years but in the end I succeeded and won my case.

If you do use the law and win you are fucked forever in Canada as far as ever being allowed to get back into the flying business, but for me it was worth it beacuse I did far better outside of Canada.

You have to understand how powerful, autonomous and entrenched
the government bureaucracies are.  Down here they are referred to
as the "deep state".

Stephen Harper publicly said that he had no control over them,
which means that they answer to no one.  If that doesn't scare
the shit out of you, I don't know what would.

Donald Trump, whom the FBI works for, has very little control over
the FBI, who are certain that their role is kingmaker, and fuck
democracy, fuck the constitution, they are the FBI, they are the
elite, and the elite determine who the next POTUS is going to be.

Anyone frightened by Comey's cronies?

Now, if the bureaucracy doesn't answer to the people they supposedly
report to, why would they give a flying fuck about some normal
citizen that just pays taxes to fund their overly generous salaries,
defined benefits and indexed pensions?

A stupid taxpayer is like a cockroach in the eyes of a TC bureaucrat,
to be crushed under their heel any time they want.
