Bose A20 vs Bose X

Finally crow-barred open the wallet and purchased the Bose A20. For anyone who is interested the upgrade is worth it (especially if you’re a hearing nut like I am). Compared to my old Bose X the A20 is significantly quieter. I used it in both the C150 and C172 (they’re ancient pistons of course so the ambient noise is high.) You could argue they’re too quiet if you’re trying to monitor engine noise for signs of trouble, but there it is.
They’re also very comfortable… so no complaints in that department. The build quality is high, and like the Bose X, the boom mike can be attached on the left or right side.
The Bluetooth works well so if you’re into the music thing it’s a big step up over the Bose X. Not a factor for me since I only wanted Bluetooth for handy cellphone communications, but it’s there if you want it.

Overall this is a quality product, and for the price, it should be (I mean it's just a headset for Chris sake!). I think there are Xmas specials right now that if you purchase the A20 you get a free Bose Bluetooth speaker thrown in -- which isn’t a bad deal.

I haven’t tried the new Zulu 3 or new DC One X but the price differential between them and A20 is only about $200 bucks, give or take. Voila.

I have the older A20 which doesn’t support streaming music, only Bluetooth calls. Bose sells the newer control cable for those looking to upgrade so I might do that someday.

The only headset I’d really consider buying to replace it is the Lightspeed Tango. I hate wires.

I have one and not impressed with the build quality. Cable and mike boom replaced 3 times in the last 4 Year’s.
