I love this story and want to go see at least one someday.  They are kind of far away from here and I might not be able to get to one. Need a second reason to go in order to convince the wife. Problem is the ones that have survived are kind of in the middle of no where.

They have had readers submit new locations since 2015.

I drove right past one in August. We took the kids near Rexburg Idaho to see the solar eclipse. Turns out according to the page there is a mostly intact shed tower and arrow at Dubois municipal airport near by. I might have even seen the tower since I look for them and may have seen a sign for the airport. I had no idea the beacon tower was one of the concrete arrow units. They look just like the beacon towers at lots of small airports.

I know for sure I saw one of the towers that still were functioning in Montana a couple of years ago. I wondered why it was there without an airport. I looked it up and found out they were extras for navigation. I'm fairly sure those ones don't have the arrows.

Life is funny.

I enjoy reading stories related to the early  days of Air Mail flying
When I was in Argentina I went to a museum that had a restored
Latecoere  and Potez flown by the Aeropostale pilots in the late twenties
amongst them Antoine Saint Exupery .
I also remember reading about Jean Mermoz ,Aeropostale Chief Pilot, first night flight between Natal [NE Brasil]
and Buenos Aires in 1929 ,some 2500NM , over rugged terrain ,without beacons of any kind .

By the way I find it very cool taking the family to see the solar eclipse
I'm sure an experience that will live in your children for a long time

Original plan was Spokane. My dad asked if we were going to be in th US during the eclipse. I said, "Yes but not where it would make it better." Then I saw a Ted Talks with a guy that made it sound good and claimed it was life changing.

I don't know if I'd say life changing but it was pretty cool. My dog did not enjoy it but he is a bit odd. I think he figured it was going to be a thunder storm. He is not a fan of those.

I have come to understand that Canada had concrete arrows as well.  In fact, our prime minister has apologized for the white male colonists who apparently did not care for them as our southern neighbour has, and she has offerred $6 Billion in compensation to the offended aboriginal first nations for their demise.
