I hate instrument flying

I hate instrument training. There I said it.

Yesterday I spent on hour under the hood intercepting VORs. Yuck. To make matters worse it was a beautiful fall day. I could have spent it doing stalls, spins, wingovers, even forced approaches (which I love). Instead I spent an hour with a fucking hood on my head staring at an instrument panel. I know it’s heresy to say it. I know that IFR is supposed to make me a better pilot. I know IFR is super useful, precise, flying by numbers, the kind of way Spock would fly, yada… yada. But I still hate it. I hate instrument flying.

Ok I feel better now.

Hey that's what I do when I land! Glad to see a pro endorsing my technique  ;)

Instrument flying skills are not required to enjoy flying.

All you have to do is make sure you don't fly in IMC.

IFR is like doing your taxes.  You might not enjoy it,
but you have to do it.

One of the most useful things you can do with an
instrument rating is deal with retarded airspace.

Airspace that is so complex it would give you a
nervous breakdown - esp when ATC refuses to
talk to you, VFR - completely disappears when you
file IFR.

Yeah I know, I do the instrument refresher stuff just to keep sharp "just in case" I get into trouble.

Or going to the dentist.

I'm not arguing against its utility. It's one of those ratings that I'm probably going to get - one of these days.  ;)

I love flying IFR, in VMC!

I also love breaking out at minimums.

...someone sent these to me...

Those of us who flew - and fly - IFR know that it's a lot easier than VFR...

Way easier.

Not to mention safer.
