The "experts" talking....

Makes me giggle...

You make laugh, Strega. Tell us here, or better over on AvCanada, how your  personal, expert qualifications and experience  are superior to every single pilot over there.

I'm guessing you don't have anywhere near the guts to do that, here or there.

O.K. humour me and please explain why the transition is so difficult?
I'm not here to humour you, Chuck.  That's what's nice about not working for someone else. I don't need to humour anyone.

You asked, I'm courteous enough to offer a theory from a lower timer perspective.
I'm not guaranteeing anything on its accuracy.

The simple answer, to save me the trouble of clicking again, is the abruptness of transition is far greater -- instant on especially a night, black hole takeoff, more gradual on approach to the runway environment.

Again -- it's a theory. I'm not asking anyone to enshrine it in a textbook.

Someone who's only ever done nice VFR flying will, unless trained to do otherwise, probably try to default to their visual cues. Visual cues are wrong/missing/confusing, pilot gets all befuddled and either takes too long to get onto the instruments or does but doesn't believe them/misinterprets/fixates on the wrong one, plane ends up upside down in a dive.

It's the mental preparedness that's important, having a reflexive mental switch from visual to instrument flight. Delay that transition and bad things happen.

Rookie,

Your post from this site:

"You asked, I'm courteous enough to offer a theory from a lower timer perspective.   I'm not guaranteeing anything on its accuracy. "

your post from the "other" site.

"FWIW as a baseline, I have @ 900 TT, about 80 odd hours actual IMC. I never have, and not sure I ever will, mix night and IMC, certainly low ceiling IMC. Just too risky for me, flying SP and don't fly enough. "

Are you telling everyone that nearly 10% of your flying was in IMC?    I sniff some bullshit.

Rookie there is no need to get all clusterfucked over something as benign as a simple take off at night.

This crap about the " Black hole effect " is just plain hype started by people without a clue as to what they are trying to do.

If you are stressed by a take off at night it is because your training was piss poor.

Performing a take off at night you have the runway lights ahead of you and in your peripheral vision long enough to get stabilised in the climb...or you should have.

A simple night take off is a basic skill with proper training.

However I do sympathise with you because getting proper training is difficult to find these days.

Chuck,,

Come on,,  a night take off into a "black hole" is a very challenging endeavor, that only experts such as 300 hr shitty instructors that couldn't fly a kite can perform!

Dont believe me?  just ask the experts on the other site.

Strega I am beyond trying to figure out how these people are allowed to teach flying when they don't understand what they are trying to teach.

Then I remember the drones that TC used to send to my flight school to intimidate my instructors and I realise it is not the instructors who are to blame because they just don't know any better.

I see CpnCrunch doesn't like us Strega he thinks the orher site is more professional.

I am so crushed by this I don't klnow how I will survive.

Do you know who he is?

I think he knows me but I have no idea who he is, that is the problem with people who use anonymity to make them look experienced and brave.

Chuck I know who he is...

Ive never met him  though,, I made him an offer to come out to my hanger and go flying, but hes too chicken shit.

He has the same first name as your favorite instructor that split s's to recover from inverted flight in a twin.
