I did my PPL back in the 1990s, I had the opportunity to put plenty of instructors through many training sessions resulting in several rotation spins. They did not seem dangerous then, it was almost routine. Partially because it was always in a properly loaded 172.

We used to do cross wind landings up to 25 knots or something too. Not often enough for me to really get good at them, but at least it happened.
