Congratulations to a very unusual class 2
flight instructor, who passed his flight test
yesterday  8)

Technically it was a renewal - it had been
expired for 42 years (!!)

Not a typo - he got a little distracted flying
Boeings and Airbuses in the interim.

But like "Four Bars" here (aka SideStickStirrer
elsewhere) he is one of those tiny handful of
retired airline pilots that decided that hey,
I'm going to go back to flight instructing after
retirement.  Not an easy road to travel.

And it was a hell of a lot of work.  FTM.  FIG.
Learning Factors.  All-new PGI.  Flight test
standards.  CARs 405/425, 406/426, 602, 605.
He took Mikey's course in Guelph.  Spin training
with Sean Tucker in the Extra 300 in California.

A few things had changed in the last 42 years!

And he did it on a very difficult airplane.  Would
have been far easier on a 172.  He hand-bombs
it, single pilot IFR, no auto-pilot, trans-continental.

We now have another very experienced flight
instructor in La Belle Province!

I have high hopes that like SideStickStirrer
he will go on to get his class 1 instructor
rating.  We need people like him, teaching
the new class 4 instructors.  Really badly.

I might be wrong, but the best thing for
flight training in Canada is a strong core
of class 1 instructors, who are in it for a
lifetime.
