I kind of want to build an electric airplane just for the mad science of it all.  I don’t know what kind of homebuilder-level airplane would be efficient enough to make a good go of it, maybe an electric Tailwind or some other low-power small hot rod.  Wittman probably would have loved it.

Nuclear-powered bombers were all the rage in the 1950's.  What could go wrong?

Hydrogen fuel cell, now that sounds like fun, too.

Yeah, I wanted to experiment a bit too. These guys make relatively inexpensive WW I replicas and a few ultralight/LSA units. The kits are inexpensive because they are pretty minimal. I don't know how much it would cost to get one into Canader though.

I don’t follow.  I usually consider the possibility of my fuel (and in some cases oil) running out.  Have I been doing it wrong?

I like the idea but I can't find any information about those except on Wikipedia. All I get from the link and other links to the page from Google is a picture of a plane.

It would certainly be nice if more companies in Canada built planes or kits. I'm not happy about Airbus taking over the C-series.

An RV-8 would be a great plane to fool around with trying electric motors out on but now I'm making the thing expensive and importing again.

And agreed, how low was this guy that when the fan quit he could not glide out of town? In a.... glider!

The website sucks but the Graham Lee Nieuports are supposed to be solid little airplanes.  You could probably get your fill of information if you joined the Aerodrome WWI forum.  http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/

What’s nice is that the Canadian Nieuports are scratch built from drawings and a build manual where Baslee makes you buy the kit.

How many more do you want?  My list may not be current but off the cuff there’s Falconar, Fisher Flying Products, Circa, Murphy, Tally-Ho, whoever makes the Bush Caddy (sp?), Zenair, Lazair, whoever made the Le Pelican, Diamond, Viking, and for the time being Bombardier.  I bet I’m missing a whole bunch.
