I'd rather sit right seat than be relief Pilot sitting on the jumpseat for take-off and landing and relieving the other 2 Pilots while they rest.

We split things up so we all share the duties equally.

@Colonel Sanders

3 Pilots due to the 15 hour plus duty day on this particular flight ( 12+05 block and 5307nm last night ).

4 Pilots would be used if we were doing even longer flights - the A340-500 can fly 20 hours non stop. I've never operated a 4 Pilot flight. I expect our company will be doing 4 Pilot flights with the A380 next year.

Relief pilot is language I don’t comprehend.
I’m happy with 8 hr flights or less.  I think my record is 6.5 as an FO. 5.something as CA.

My body isn’t built for longhaul.  It’s barely built for red-eyes...

I don’t remember which leg it was, but we had 40k lbs (of a Max 42k lbs) in the 321 heading west.  Baltimore to Vegas maybe?
I felt like a longhaul guy that night.
