Pacific Coastal Airlines is looking for a permanent full-time Ramp Lead Trainer. This position is based out of the South Terminal building at the Vancouver International Airport in Richmond.
The Ramp Lead Trainer is responsible for the development, oversight, and maintenance of the Ramp training program at Pacific Coastal Airlines. He/she plays a critical role with ensuring that all Ramp Agents are trained and adhere to all company SOPs, and Transport Canada regulations.
First of all how many ramp guys is Pasco going through that they need a full time person to train new ramp rats??
Secondly, this is a bag, it has a tag with 3 letters on it, put the bags with the same letters on the cart. Take cart to that plane, dont hit said plane, don't drop the bags, lift with your knees.
next week we will teach you how to drain the shitter and marshall a plane.
Oh and once we determine you're not a complete fuckwit we might let you talk to the customers or maybe even tow a plane!
You will figure it out watch the other guys and show up on time.
Please Explain this Job Posting to me
They're running out of 'pilots in waiting' and the only other people that will take a ramp job for the pay offered require close supervision and constant retraining......

My company sees a high turnover rate on rampies (not pilots in waiting, dedicated rampies) because it's an unskilled job and attracts the kind of people you would expect. Often times they are students looking for a summer job or someone between positions elsewhere but the bottom line is there are very few who make a career throwing bags for a 703. You need somebody to organize, train and lead in a situation like that.

Having chucked bags almost 20 years ago at Pasco I doubt the operation has changed that much. Decent company and think I was making 13 bucks an hour back then so wonder what gives.
With the amount they post for jobs it sounds like Pasco will be one of the first casualties of the new job market.

I think it's safe to assume you were there to fly so you were already airport savvy and motivated to do a good job. It's not hard to imagine low time pilots as a source of cheap labour disappearing in the near future (or at least being relocated away from 703/704) and those ground positions being filled by various flunkies.
