Here is a short article about a guy that made toy planes that likely inspired, important early aircraft development.

Kind of a poignant (maybe too big a word) story.

I know I still have a love of those rubber band powered planes like the ones he invented. Occasionally I buy a nice balsa stamped kit when I see them. There is a great club of older fellows that meet in the Evergreen air and space museum that scratch build them with actual airfoils and fuselages.
